DENMARK PAGE 4 OCTOBER 2007

(Updated 16/10/07) The worlds 7th richest Nation (per capita). Out of the ten Richest Countries (based on 2006 GNP per capita in US$)

1. Luxembourg $87,955.00

2. Norway $72,306.00

3. Qatar $62,914.00

4. Iceland $54,858.00

5. Ireland $52,440.00

6. Switzerland $51,771.00

7.Denmark $50,965.00

8. United States $44,190.00

9. Sweden $42,383.00

10. Netherlands $40,571.00

(NOTE: ***Luxembourg's high GNP per capita is due in part to a significant number of its workforce living in neighbouring countries. Non-residents are not counted in Luxembourg's population which in turn raises the country's GNP per capita score. This effectively places Norway in first spot. (REF: Here)

We are once again with the “Mega Rich”. However, they have slipped from 5th place to 7th in the last few years. It is also home to the young “Sheila” from Tassie that married a Prince

We're here to learn once again, knowing little about the country or its people. One of my good friends “Gunnar Colin” is Danish and we cannot forget those lovely “Danish Pastries” that he brought into our shop, for us all to feast on. Who (in my era) as a child, has not heard Danny Kaye's 1952 song “Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen” Or Hans Christian Andersen and (for me) the most famous fairy tail “The Ugly Duckling”. As usual I will report as I see things, “warts 'n all”

Money in Aussie Dollars

Wednesday October 31st 2007  “Secret” camp in the village of Vrad to an old school in Kollemorten.
Approx. 25.96k's Average Speed 8.70kph Cycling time 2Hr(s) 59Min. Max speed. 44kph Max temp we recorded 12°C
Terrain:
Flat. Road Conditions: Very Good, O/night Accom.: $0.00
We woke to freezing rain, heavy at times... Debated long and hard whether we should stay or get soaked. By midday the rain had eased to a constant “wetting” drizzle. So we decided a late start would be better than sitting here all day. As we were “deep bush” we saw very few humans today.. Emerging into a small village we topped up our supplies. Then “off road” again. This part of route 3 is unsealed but “rated” in good condition, however, the heavy rain had washed out parts and made our bikes hard to peddle.

We “clawed” for every kilometre up huge hills (for Denmark).. We thought Denmark was flat? At about 6pm and unable to find the two “secret” camps – despite calling in “local knowledge”; an elderly couple let us use the local school. He was the headmaster (He was “a” headmaster but I may have misunderstood which school). Some areas have been partitioned off and doors put on... Like the army there is two bunks, which sleep 4 people a “coffee” table and two chairs

Plus a communal shower (Its a school) and toilet some distance from the room. They gave us a special price of $47.00 – in most parts of Asia this would be 4-5 Star – even in Bangkok (Lee's home town) the “Nasa Vegas” is only $18.00 per night and absolute 4**** luxury.

Oh!!! did I tell you, 16,000 Children died today and the same will die tomorrow, of starvation and related illnesses? Sorry I forgot to tell you.
(
Source: HERE ) Update 2008 - 18,000 per day now.....

We see so many types of Mushrooms in the forest(s) as we ride through – if anyone can recommend a good site or book for “Europe” can you please let us know...

A couple of pic's of the many varieties we see.

Anyhow that's it for today... AND for October 2007.

Thursday November 1st 2007  Old school in Kollemorten to Bække free campsite.
Approx. 25.96k's Average Speed 8.70kph Cycling time 2Hr(s) 59Min. Max speed. 44kph Max temp we recorded 12°C
Terrain:
Flat. Road Conditions: Very Good, O/night Accom.: $0.00
With fingers crossed, I sit here pain free in my left knee, for three days now.. improving stat's in both distance and cruising speed are evident today. Will it last or will it flair up again I do not know, but it feels like brand new at the moment :-) Of course we would like to be closer to an average of 50 k's per day... At the current rate we can be in Southern Spain by January... The day started in our “Army Barracks” at about 06:50 . It is dark here until about 0900...

We showered and cooked our breakfast of fried rice.. Actually there is less than a teaspoon of olive oil in the “fried Rice” Lee wants to start the day with a good breakfast and chucks in veggies and egg plus a few spices... A very balanced meal - oh! and tasty too :-)
Cycling today was quite warm.. the Temp stayed in double figures almost all day..
Lee met some fantastic kids – including 1 Aussie –

that despite their tender years, all spoke English. One knew Lee's Thai flag and I missed the lot. I drove past and said hello, waved and realised Lee was missing about half a K down the road.

We camped in a Govt. or Scout area tonight – no huts but we made a fire with the supplied wood.

Found a nice spot for our tent and started the evening chores... Catchya Later
