Dedicated to a wonderful Mother Jean Noble 31/5/1929 - 20/8/2007 - may we never take our mothers for granted. - Goodbye Mum
(Updated 16/10/07) The worlds 7th richest Nation (per capita). Out of the ten Richest Countries (based on 2006 GNP per capita in US$)
1. Luxembourg $87,955.00 2. Norway $72,306.00 |
3. Qatar $62,914.00 4. Iceland $54,858.00 |
5. Ireland $52,440.00 6. Switzerland $51,771.00 |
7.Denmark $50,965.00 8. United States $44,190.00 |
9. Sweden $42,383.00 10. Netherlands $40,571.00 |
(NOTE: ***Luxembourg's high GNP per capita is due in part to a significant number of its workforce living in neighbouring countries. Non-residents are not counted in Luxembourg's population which in turn raises the country's GNP per capita score. This effectively places Norway in first spot. (REF: Here)
We are once again with the “Mega Rich”. However, they have slipped from 5th place to 7th in the last few years. It is also home to the young “Sheila” from Tassie that married a Prince
We're here to learn once again, knowing little about the country or its people. One of my good friends “Gunnar Colin” is Danish and we cannot forget those lovely “Danish Pastries” that he brought into our shop, for us all to feast on. Who (in my era) as a child, has not heard Danny Kaye's 1952 song “Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen” Or Hans Christian Andersen and (for me) the most famous fairy tail “The Ugly Duckling”. As usual I will report as I see things, “warts 'n all”

A
new day, still disappointed we got caught and had to spend an
uncomfortable night with the “Corporate Vermin”. A day of
wrong turns and wasted k's, but as usual there were highlights. One
of which was being invited into a “Gymnastics Camp” of
8-14 yr old children.
We
chatted with the teachers and were invited to join Teachers and
Students for lunch.
Really
enjoyed interacting with the kids and teachers... It reminded me of
how much I miss my nine
grandchildren..
some of whom are in this age group. Met a lady 50's or so, jogging
through the bush whilst searching for the “secret camps”.
She
was fantastic and wrote down detailed instructions on how to get to
one of the five in the area... We got to the location but it took the
combined effort of many locals before we discovered the hidden
treasure.
We
are bunkered down here for maybe two days as the weather forecast is
for 22mm of rain tomorrow. Don't know how they can be so accurate but
22mm is an awful lot of rain... getting late and time for dinner..

Woke
in our 5,000,000 stars hotel :-) (Stars in the sky dumbo:-). Lee
parked hers in the Garage :-)
All
weather forecasters suffer the same problem... they cannot forecast
:-) Virtually no rain 8/8 cloud cover, although some clouds were very
ominous, but no rain apart from a few “spits”. So about
10am we decided we will cycle. The day started with kids, no sooner
had we got on the bike; when there appeared a bunch of kids on a
“Nature Walk”.
In
their first year since kindergarten, they were very excited to see
us... We spent a little time explaining our journey and left them to
their walk.
300 Metres more and we met a “hiker”.
A
lady in her 50's (or so) that had hiked many places.. including (I
don't know it) the “Pilgrim route” from southern France
into Spain.
More cycling through beautiful countryside, until the
hour came to look for the “secret” campsites. Again we
could not find them – but enquires with locals revealed a free
(Pay in summer) place to pitch a tent and build a camp-fire.
When
we got to the farm, the farmer told us she knew of the “huts”
in the forest and that they were less than a kilometre away –
five separate
local
people did not know??. The farmer gave us an unused house (Aside from
us in the picture) to bed down in, together with heating... A real
luxury... Plus she invited us for morning coffee... So glad we did
NOT find the huts today :-)
My
bike computer did not record truly today.. it's happened a couple of
times and now I am out of sync (NOTE: We have not synchronised for a
while) with Lee who is storing “Global Stat's”. Both
computers were calibrated to be within 1 metre over 4 kilometres, at,
or about 4500-5000 k's ago. Deadly accurate... Lee is now 80 or so
kilometres more than me.. (over about 2000 k's or maybe 200 k's - we
don't know) I suspect it is a very new phenomena, as I noticed it
stopped for a few seconds, a couple of times recently, whilst
pedalling, I will change batteries next time we can find the type we
need. 80 kilometres over the many thousands we have pedalled in not
very important but, WILL be rectified. Today we had travelled 19 k's
and my computer registered only 4.75 k's Lee had taken a check point
the night before so we knew, to within a fraction of a kilometre. The
stat's today are the result of this knowledge and are “fairly”
accurate.

We
called in for morning coffee and met the family... The little girl on
the bike is the youngest daughter Elisabeth.
After
this lovely breakfast, it's on the road... As we once more “swap”
the brutal “corporate” world for the beautiful “ordinary”
Danes.
There
are NO five star hotels that can match the wonderful people we have
met and shared time with on our travels.... The experience has been
truly priceless... I can never repay nor thank enough all the people.
The things you have all taught me/us will make me/us better
person(s).
The kilometres just melted away on quiet country lanes... at about 20 and a bit k's we stopped for lunch and to replenish our dwindling supplies... My bike computer zeroed itself at this point! So today's stat's are not accurate to a decimal point. We met no-one of interest today and talked with a few, just to ask directions to the “secret” camps.
We
could not find the first, but persistence paid off with the second
:-)
We
are now freezing cold in our open hut. (Sorry not a good pic but our
only one) (3C) Soon we will be in our sleeping bag and shivering
until we warm up... In the meantime freezing fingers are dancing over
the keyboard. And the rain tumbles down outside. We will have to wait
until morning to get pic's as it is too wet and dark. Catchya
