AUSTRALIA Page 11 - Victoria - February 2007.

Australia, the adopted homeland of both Mal and Lee. The only continent under one government and the country we both love. The picture above is the “skyline” of our city, you can click on the picture to get a larger image. Perth is one of the most isolated regional capital cities in the world. There are so many things to say about our country that I simply do not know where to begin...

Good road between Pt Fairy and Warrnambool, with a wide shoulder for the most part. Port Fairy is a beautiful old town with over 50 heritage buildings. Loads of people asked about the bikes, our trip, and just about everything else.... Just like these three young people from America.

One big hill between Pt Fairy and Warrnambool..

Rain caused us to schedule a day off... We will need to practice set up and dismantle our camp-site in the rain, as we will no doubt encounter much more. Time to look at this in more detail.
Tuesday February 20th 2007 Warrnambool to Bush Camp about 9k's from Port Campbell
Approx. 60.84k's Average Speed 11.83kph Cycling time 5Hr(s) 08Min. Max speed. 41kph Max temp we recorded 25°C (Shade)
Terrain:
Gently undulating. Road Conditions: Good, Terribly strong headwind O/night Accom.: $.
Headwind came in a 12 O'clock most of the day... We packed in the early morning drizzle.... and rode off in very light rain.. For the first 16k's, despite having a shoulder, we were harassed by trucks... Whilst many are fine people, some even tendering a wave there is “that” minority that are absolutely bloody certifiable! We turned off the Princess Highway, on to the Great Ocean Road..

Reducing the truck traffic by 80% . There is no doubt this part of our country is stunningly beautiful..There are many others and I hope more to come...
Stopped at the magnificent roadside facilities provided by the Government...

These pic's are near Peterborough at the start of the road

And Still more....

As you can imagine the ride was beautiful for both of us... We pulled into Peterborough and went to a C/van park... This time I asked the questions... He wanted $22.50 for us to pitch our tent.. No camp kitchen... only a partial setup with bbq in one area and microwave in the laundry... NO thanks mate... We peddled on and set up a pretty good bush camp... They have been hard to find in this area.

A bit desolate looking but quite private... It is in fact a MRD Metal dump... used to hold road building material... It appears long since abandoned..
Not much more to tell you.. except we hope to make it to the bottom of “Lavers Hill” and psych ourself up for the 19km climb to the top... which we will do the day after. Catchya Later....
