The Stat's today were our highest for the entire trip, since October 2006 AND the first time we cracked 100k's in a day!!! The brilliant Thai roads and the big weight reduction we did in Hat Yai, has made this possible... We weighed our bikes today (with us on them) Mine came in at 160kg and Lee at 110kg. This includes all our gear. We were almost out of water, hence the low numbers There is still room for big reductions in weight and it is possible to do away with the trailers, if we purchased different panniers. We will look at that in Bua Yai, Lee's home town – as we plan a long stop there.

There are many stalls along our route and we often stop for fruit or an iced drink.... The vendors almost always wave...

Lee was feeling the heat today and even the local people commented on how hot it was... Lee started to get “familiar” symptoms of heatstroke. So we stopped, put an iced towel on her head and plenty of cool drinks...

She was soon feeling better and we were on our way.. We stopped at “Wat Suan Mok” a famous Wat amongst visitors to Thailand.. It seems to have lost a little of it's lustre since the highly respected head monk died a few years ago... We met a young Malaysian/Thai couple who posed for pictures whilst we were there... He is from Penang and She from Kanchanabury.... Very nice people...

The countless “boxes” in the picture are “Salted Eggs”, for which the area we are in is famous. Pretty much “Dog Tired” now after a long ride... Here's a look at the outside of our motel unit.... Beautiful and Only $6.19 per night.

Well that's about it folks, for today.... Catchya Later....

It was an uneventful ride today... but I need to put this pic in we took at central Surat Thani... A beautiful example of a colourful Chinese Buddhist Temple, with Lee sat on the steps... She is even more beautiful :-)

We knew we were cycling to Lee's Uncle's house, however, Lee has not been here for 17 yrs and was not exactly sure of it's location... A couple of long but not too steep hills, made for a huge water use.. We stopped to top up our supplies often.. Here's Lee with a 9yr old bike enthusiast :-)

At one café there was no one there... We just helped ourselves and left the money on the counter

The rain clouds were looming and we knew it would not be long... a few drops is all that we got before Lee recognised her surroundings... At the time of writing I do not know Lee's plans, re staying with her family – if at all.. Catchya Later....
Monday July 7th and Tuesday July the 8th 2008 Thung Tako Rest Days with Lee's family.

The weather made the decision to stay or go for us, we got torrential rain overnight and throughout the day... We spent the day in between showers, visiting local attractions and the family farm. Lee with two of her cousins, the one in a blue top was only married in January

Lee's family are quite “well to do” by Thai standards... They have a small rubber plantation, grow fruits and catfish, all contained within 8 hectares - about 20 acres The fruits and Catfish are wholesaled to the local market, which is just next door to the house... We will search the area for internet opportunities and upload our site....
Day Two..

The family took us out to see the local attractions, we had a great afternoon....

I tried to get a close up of the island in the background.... It looked idyllic

Zooming in on the sandy area with MAX zoom shows the limits of our camera.... Sadly it was a cloudy day as well

We took several pictures of this colourful ship.... A no zoom, half zoom, then full zoom.... Here's how they turned out...

It was steaming along so the perspective changes...

It had almost turned by the time we zoomed in full......

We took far too many pictures to put here... I may do a “collage” if time permits, in the future

Catchya Later...
